How boring

That said, his win is also a win for everyone who admires boring, everyday competence. Obama picked competent people to advise him and those competent people helped him run a killer campaign. They were smart, organized, calm, unified, focused, innovative, flexible...in short, everything that the McCain campaign was not. (Ditto Team Hillary.) And while there is a certain romance to the idea of a candidate running a by-the-seat-of-his pants campaign fueled by chutzpah and a willingness to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks--the model that so obviously appealed to Team McCain's image of itself as scrappy and unorthodox--the idea of a president who would govern in that way gives me the willies.

why weather control is more important than ever: historical election edition

If it had rained in Illinois on election day in 1960, Richard Nixon would have beaten John F. Kennedy.

If it had been sunny in Florida on election day in 2000, Al Gore would have beaten George W. Bush.

Consider the Lobster

Roe v. Whatnow?

Couric: And do you believe Roe V. Wade should be overturned?

McCain: No. no.

Couric: No. Why not? Your husband does.

McCain: No. I don't think he does.

Couric: He believes it should be overturned. That's what he told me, and that it should go to the states.

McCain: Well, in that respect. Yes, yeah, I do. I understand what you're saying now. It's a states issue.

Couric: So, you believe it should be overturned or shouldn't be overturned.

McCain: I believe it's a states issue. That I do believe.

How do you break out of the Google box?!?!?

Do you know of other, better video sites?

I like streaming tv episodes and, to a lesser degree, movies. What's better than hulu? There are content providers (like, ABC, NBC, cable, etc…) They have their own sites, but other stuff is rolled up into sites like hulu. How have you automated your shit?

I'd rather have the barrel

Oil certainly gushed, and at one point it was priced down so much (or barrels were in such demand & scarcity) that the wooden barrel was worth twice as much as the oil in it.
